This must have been an exciting game for the neutral with Ballynure opening the scoring after 10 mins from a set piece. Carniny looked impressive from the start and were creating chances for themselves but were struggling to put the final touch into goal from their moves. It was Jordan Graham who drew the scores level, heading home from a Michael O'Mullan corner to make it 1-1 at the break.
The second half was end to end stuff with Ballynure going ahead again when their left winger crossed in for a forward to tap home. Carniny showed great spirit after being reduced to ten men by equalising through Graham from another header from a free kick this time. However Ballynure took the lead minutes later when a ball in behind the Carniny defence was fired in off the post to leave it at 3-2. The Amateurs continued to attack but couldn't get past the 'Nure keeper who was in fine form in the closing stages with Ryan Wilkinson seeing his curling effort expertly tipped round the post. Desperately trying to take the tie into injury time Carniny kept trying for the equaliser right to the final whistle but Ballynure held on to their lead to see themselves into the draw for the net round.
