CUP PROGRESS FOR AMATEURS

Carniny opened their when Dean Magill hit an unstoppable shot from 20 yds out high into the Castle net on 10 mins. Castle were battling hard against the Amateurs and were rewarded when they capitalised on a defensive error to level on 17mins. Carniny restored their lead when Ciaran McGarry scored from a Barry Hamill cross on 26 mins but another error at the back saw Star equalise again on 34 mins. 2-2 at the break.

With a one man advantage after the break Carniny were quick to score when Ryan Wilkinson cut in from the right to hit a sweet left foot shot high into the Star net. Four mins later David Hanna was on the score sheet after receiving from Magill on the edge of the box. Wilkinson then got his second when he was put through with a pass from McGarry with another super strike and six mins later completed his hat trick with with a neat lob over the keeper. With a four goal advantage Carniny didn't let up and Hanna got his second with another lob over the keeper. McGarry completed the scoring on the 84th min when McGarry raced on to a ball put in behind the Star defence by Hanna to make it 8-2 at the final whistle.

Mark McAllister made a welcome return to action after a long lay off in this match that was a good confidence booster for the lads as they take on their league leaders, Ballynure OB in the JJB Irish Cup next Saturday.
