Carniny had a bright start in this game with young Jonny Cummings going close only five mins in, but Ardglass went ahead after a free kick on 8 mins. They then doubled their lead after a goal mouth scramble. If Ardglass thought they were going to get an easy ride they were mistaken when Jonny Cummings headed home at the near post one minute before the break.
Carniny came out in the second half taking the game to Ardglass with the County Down men struggling to cope with the pace of the young Carniny side. The amateurs then levelled the game when Michael O'Mullan nodded home from close range on 65 mins. Carniny kept the pace up and ten mins later took the lead when Jake Armstrong fired in a 30 yd drive leaving the Ardglass keeper no chance. As the game reached the 90 mins Ardglass were trying hard for the equaliser and broke Carniny's hearts when they scored a goal mouth scramble on 90 mins to take the game to extra time.
With the game going into extra time the play became a little scrappy from both teams but it was Ardglass that scored twice to see them through to the next round
Carniny can certainly hold their heads high after their performance against this experienced Amateur league side which had a few ex Irish league players and on another day could easily have won this game.
