The first half saw the Amateurs fail to take control of the game, when although having the lions share of the possession, were not taking their chances in front of goal with the final ball forward letting them down and the Woodlands keeper making a few good saves. The game still remained scoreless at the interval.
After regrouping at half time Carniny came out and started to play some neat football on the ground and Jonathan Cummings broke the deadlock only 2 mins after the restart when he latched on to a perfectly weighted pass down the right flank from Barry Simpson and confidently slotted pass the Woodlands keeper. Carniny then were guilty of taking their foot off the pedal allowing Woodlands to equalise from a corner on 65 mins. The Ballymena men the restored their lead when Matthew O'Flaherty lofted a long free kick into the box for Emmet Long to nod home. Two mins later Adam Whitehurst increased their lead as he worked his way across the goal looking for an opening and eventually fired home. Davy Hanna also went close seeing his overhead kick bounce off the up right. To their credit Woodlands never gave up and hit Carniny on the break on 83 mins with a lob over the keeper to make it 3-2 Making his first team debut Juraj Malik pulled off an important save towards the end rounding off a solid performance between the posts. There were no further goals with the Amateurs progressing through to the next round.
