The ‘Ballymena Reds’ extended their unbeaten run to five games with a league win over Steadfast although had to come back from a goal down after 5 minutes with a thunderbolt from Tyler McAuley for the visitors.
This jolted Carniny into action and after 15 minutes it was all square when the industrious Scott Buxton was on hand to tap home. On 25 minutes Carniny took the lead when Spence put in a super cross from the right for Buxton to net his brace. Steadfast refused to lay down and continued to press although Carniny dominated the midfield with Hanna, O’Neill and O’Flaherty playing some nice football.
Ten minutes into the second half Steadfast drew level after Carniny failed to clear their lines. Two minutes later the Carniny lead was restored when McWilliams scored with a half volley as the home side were driven on by captain Hanna to make it 3-2.
On 65 minutes Buxton completed his hat trick with a header from a Heron free kick then five minutes later the same player scored his forth and Carniny’s fifth following a solo run. As the game drew to a close Dean Surgenor got in on the act with his trademark headed goal from a cross from O’Flaherty to finish the game 6-2.
A good result and a well earned three points from Carniny with a notable debut from Spence who is a welcome addition to the team and likewise their two teenage full backs Waring and McComb up from the youth team.
