This was an exciting match for the neutral in a game that was fast paced and end to end.
Carniny went into the game with several key players missing through suspensions and injuries. It was Southside who opened the scoring only two mins in when they left a man free at the front post at a corner who fired home from close range. Carniny were then dealt another blow with John Costello forced off through injury for Dean Surgenor to take his place in the centre of defence. Carniny then pulled one back through Shane McWilliams on 20 mins as he expertly received the ball from a throw, turning his man in the box and fired home. Ten mins late the action was back up the other end and unfortunately for Carniny they scored an own goal to give Southside the lead again. They responded well however when McWilliams scored his and Carniny's second to make it 2-2. Then barry simpson shot the visitors into the lead bursting through the centre using his speed and strength against the Southside centre back to fire high up into the top corner to see them take the lead into the break.
It was nip and tuck stuff in the second half with Tyler McAuley and Shane McWilliams both clipping the cross bar. The centre back pairing of Surgenor and White were in excellent form keeping the Southside attacks at bay. The game was in injury time when Southside were awarded a free kick and were awarded a penalty after the referee deemed high feet in the box. Southside went on to convert the spot kick and with no time left that was the final score 3-3.
