On a blustery night at the showgrounds the Amateurs never really got to grips with this game with little flowing football played by either side. It was the home side however who took the lead on 20 mins with Barry Simpson tripped up in the box and Scott Buxton stepping up to convert the resultant spot kick. The lead was short lived however when they left the tallest man on the pitch unmarked at a set piece who was able to head the ball back into the box and the visitors scored from a goal mouth scramble. They went on to score again minutes later when the ball deflected off a Carniny player from a free kick wrong footing Adam Barr, giving home chance.
In the second half against the wind Carniny tried to take the game to Northend as the clock ticked on but the visitors held on to their lead with some resolute defending and frustrating Carniny in the process and held on to their lead to take it into the second leg on Saturday.
