Carniny struggled playing into the wind and sun in the early stages of this game with the central defenders Lloyd White and Maurice Spence having to deal with the long high ball coming at them through the sun. Carniny looked the most likely to get a breakthrough before the break with Scott Buxton heading over and then he went close soon after with a lob as both sides failed to get the opener. . The Larne men had a couple of chances themselves but went wide and high.

Carniny failed to step up a gear after the break letting Ruby's take control for periods. Late on there was chances at both ends, firstly Paul McCann headed over for Ruby’s and Adam Barr was on his toes when he turned a swerving ball that looked destined for the top corner, round the post. Then Scott Buxton spurned a glorious chance to win it for his side when he beat the offside trap from a Maurice Spence through ball, but his shot was saved by Matthew Rice in the Ruby’s goal as the game finished goalless.

The first half of extra time saw two tired sides struggle to make in roads, with Scott Buxton making a break through and squaring to Adam Heron in the box but he failed to trouble the keeper. In the second half Ruby’s were on top as they forced a series of set pieces before they got what proved to be the winner. From a Ruby's corner kick the ball was cleared off the line at the back post, unfortunately rebounding off a Ruby's player in the six yard box and into the Carniny net to break the deadlock with only minutes to go.Carniny desperately tried to equalise to take the game to penalties
