Carniny opened the scoring in this Junior Shield game when the McComb brothers worked well down the right flank for Danny to send in a cross which was poked home from close range by Benji Agnew. They doubled their lead on 26th minutes when Sam Armstrong, making his debut for the senior team, neatly fired in from the left hand side of the box. Mountainview got themselves back into the game when a lapse in concentration allowed them to pull one back to make it 2-1 at the break.
Only one minute into the second half saw Barry Simpson score with a cross come shot beating the keeper at the far post, 3-1. The next goal came from another debutant and former player Kevin Coogan, who got on the end of a Danny McComb cross at the far post to make it four for the home side. Gareth Kealey had been solid between the posts for Carniny and pulled off a super reaction save in the last ten minutes as Mountainview tried desperately to reduce the deficit. Carniny put gloss on the scoreline as the game reached a conclusion with Coogan crossing for Agnew for a tap in for his second, minutes later the same player completed his hat trick when played in by Armstrong to make it 6-1 at the final whistle.
Special mention for all the youth players, Sam Armstrong, Matthew McComb, Luke Calderwood and Lewis McKee who stepped up and fitted in well.
