Carniny started the slower in this league game with Southside putting pressure on in the opening stages, seeing a shot rebound off the crossbar. The game was end to end stuff until the 38th minute when Gary McMeekin was tripped up in the box and stepped up to take the resultant penalty making no mistake to make it 1-0 to the visitors.
In the second half the game continued to go end to end with Southside missing a number of chances and their goalkeeper producing two point blank saves in succession from Chris Wilgaus and McMeekin to deny Carniny their second. As the game progressed Southside became increasingly frustrated, with the Carniny defence defending a series of corners well. Southside looked certain to get an equaliser when a player was free on an open goal from the six yard line in the last 10 mins but put it wide. Carniny then put the game out of reach for the home side when Matthew McComb curled a sweet strike to the top corner of the goal in the dying minutes to see Carniny claim all three points. A resolute performance an a third clean sheet in a row for Niall Shannon in the Carniny goal.
