Carniny started in their usual manner on their new 3G surface and went ahead with an early goal when Ciaran McGarry gave them the lead around the five minute mark. The reds continued to press and were soon rewarded with a second goal when Barry Hamill continued his good scoring form firing home another free kick. Adam Whitehurst made it 3-0 when a Dean Magill flicked on released him to slot past the goalkeeper. Carniny dropped the tempo after this but a brilliant individual goal from Nicky McCartney made their lead more comfortable when he danced his way past 3 players and rounded the goalkeeper to make it 4-0. Just before half time Carniny lost concentration and Ballyclare were able to pull a goal back to leave the half time score at 4-1.
Carniny began to play their football again in the second half and were soon 5-1 up when a Whitehurst effort was saved by the keeper and Hamill followed in to slide in the rebound. Carniny continued to relentlessly pour forward and a Whitehurst cross was brilliantly dummied by McCartney for Steven O'Neill to fire into the bottom corner for the 6th and Niall McGarry picked out a great through ball to release Jordan Graham 5 minutes later for him to score the 7th. Hamill completed his hat trick with 10 minutes to go latching onto a through ball from Graham to slot past the goalkeeper at the second attempt and the scoring was rounded off after a pinpoint Hamill free kick was powerfully headed into the top corner by Graham for his second of the game and to make the score 9-1. A solid performance from Carniny taking them into the next round of the Canada Trophy.
