B TEAM INTO THE JACK BUSBY QUATER FINALS!
By Janey Slader
Hard Work Pays Off!!
Carterton B visited Hanborough Reserves in what was a hard fought victory on a cold but dry Saturday Afternoon. After rain hit the day before most would of thought the game might not have gone ahead on what was a very soft surface.
Carterton welcomed back Adam Harris and Steve Jenkins to the starting line up following substitute appearances by both in the win over FC Mills the week before. After Long Hanborough first team were knocked out of the first round of the Fred Ford there reserves called upon some first teamers who were eligible to play which for most of the game did not make a difference.
Carterton started the game well in the opening 15 mins keeping the ball down and moving it around but it was Hanborough who hit first blood. Carterton failed to deal with a cross in from the right hand side which left the striker unmark who place a good header passed the flying Danny Mac in goal.
Shocked by conceding town responded well and within 5 minutes were levels courtesy of top Scorer Olly Bush who calmly poked past the keeper after good work by Steve Jenkins and Dan Sollis. From the first whistle Carterton seemed up for the challenge and with 10 minutes to go in the first half took a well deserve lead through Dan Sollis who managed to trickle the ball over the line following a mix up with the hanborough defender and keeper.
Half time 2-1 B Team.
Second half Carterton continued how they ended the first half dominating possession and going close on goal on numerous occasions. With a tight back 4 with captain Jon Goodman leading the line Hanborough never really troubled us in the second half. With Tom Perry and Lee Litton in the midfield town looked comfortable and calm and played the ball around nicely.
With 15 mins left Dan Sollis picked up the ball around 25 yards out and place a well struck shot in to the top left hand corner to leave Hanborough silenced and Carterton advancing in to the quarter finals of the Jack Busby for the 4th year running.
Bring on Bampton in what will be another competitive game I am sure.
