1sts Open League Campaign With Win

The 1sts welcomed old friends, Thornhill Athletic to the University playing fields for the opening game of the 2022-23 League season.

It was the visitors who got the game off to a quick start, latching onto a mistake in the Cons defence before firing home passed keeper, Craig Parker after only 2 minutes.

The Cons were able to draw the scores level on the half hour, when Jake Macpherson, making his starting debut, fed striker Dan Alexander to score his first goal for the season and 32nd overall.

Alexander was the provider of the opening goal in the second period when, in the 55th minute, he fed a ball through for new skipper, Jon Counsell, to run onto and slide home passed goal keeper's right hand side to score his second goal in consecutive games. 5 minutes later, the Cons made a change bringing on Steffan Veck, for his club debut, in place of Alec Stevens in midfield. Just after this change, Thornhill brought the scores level again by scoring a free kick low down passed Parker in the home goal.

Parity only lasted for 4 minutes as Player/Manager, Rickie Jones, was able to slot home a free kick for the Cons from 20 yards out to score his 66th career club goal.

The Cons made the game safe in the 80th minute when substitute, Louie Carpanini, scored his debut goal for the Cons, firing home from 8 yards out when an initial strike on goal rebounded to him.
