With the weather claiming all of the other grass League fixtures, the Firsts visited Cardiff Hibs at the Cardiff West Community School 3G pitch on a dry afternoon.
With both sides unbeaten in the League an interesting game was expected.
The Cons welcomed back goalkeeper Alex Meyer, following his transfer back from Cardiff Dracs, and also gave a debut to new signing Max Stevens, brother of Alec Stevens who was also in the starting line up.
The early exchanges were fairly even with Meyer making a fine one handed saved when faced with a one on one challenge in the 20th minute, and Max Stevens just not being able to connect to a bouncing cross from the left from Josh Kloet, with the goal at his mercy. In the 38th minute Kloet raced passed the Hibs back line and got to the ball just before the advancing keeper and side footed it around him, only to see the curving ball hit the inside of the far post and bounce out.
The Hibs broke the deadlock just after the break when the centre forward ran straight through the middle of the Cons defence and fired home strongly.
The Cons were playing some good football, but the final ball lacked any positivity, and there was also a distinct lack of talking amongst the players, in contrast to the home team who were very vocal.
They were very grateful to Meyer who pulled off 2 fine reactionary saves to keep them in the match, but with the midfield beginning to tire, the Hibs doubled their lead with a Penalty in the 76th minute following a player being pulled back, and they made the game safe in the 88th minute when the striker ran through the Cons defence, beating 4 defenders, before scoring.
The 3-0 scoreline was a bit flattering for the Home team but it was a case of converting the chances given to complete the win.
