A winter training incentive for Catterick's young superstars.

With winter training about to start, Crusaders have been looking for a way to keep their young charges motivated on a Saturday morning rather than them turning up for what may seem pointless training. The answer to our puzzle has come in the form of the RFL Skill's Awards.
The Skills Awards motivate young players to have fun and learn skills whilst performing to the best of their ability. it also enables coaches to observe young players in a game situation, and ascertain if learning has taken place, by the players being able to transfer the skills learnt into practice.
Player assessments are linked to the Level 1 CAYPABLE games cards, but the flexible approach enables assessments to be carried out by other appropriate games devised by the coach. Players are observed in a small sided game displaying, the criteria listed for each of the core skills. The criteria can be achieved over a period of time and will help young players development over a broad range of skills.
On completion of the award, the skills registration sheet is returned to the RFL who will issue certificates.
With the interest for winter training running high with both the single and dual code fraternity the Skills Awards should come as an exciting added bonus. With its graduated assessments, Skills Awards will also provide an excellent way for new players to enter the game and maximise their learning.
Crusaders Skills Awards sessions will start on Saturday 15 Oct and will run throughout the off season.
