The men's season in the National leagues got underway last Saturday, as the women entered their second week of competition in the KPMG Women's Premiership.
Down on Sports Rd the Tempest were unlucky to go down 10-6 to HKFC Select. The NL2 side travel on Saturday to HK Scottish Nomads for a 3pm kickoff at Shek Kip Mei. Manager Sam Pinder praised the defensive effort but felt his side misfired in the attacking set up.
The Pirates plundered an opening win against HK Scottish Bravehearts, with their Gallic flair overcoming the Celtic steel. Tries for Max and Renaud, plus one conversion and two penalties for co-captain Etienne set up a 18-7 victory. Co-captain Joe Mayega stating that "the season is a long one but the Pirates will be staying put at the top of NL4". Ex-Contender Chris Cheng also described his own debut Pirates performance as both "phenomenal" and "pivotal".
Elsewhere, the far-from-collegiate Marines assembled for registration at KGV last Saturday. The mix of experience and malcoordination continues to serve them well, opening their copybook to record a headspinning 22-10 win over Revolution.

In the Women's Prem, the Phoenix made amends for their opening day loss with a comprehensive shut-out of Tai Po Dragons. The 24-0 scoreline (Kalex Chan, Kim Lau, June Au, ManChing Leung, conv Dora Chim x 2) will give them confidence going into Saturday's KPMG Women's Premiership clash with Gaia Wu Falcons, 4.30pm at fortress So Kon Po.
