Another great performance against high flying opponents from the A league

St Edmunds Royals went into the game on a high expecting a win from a team in a lower league. During a close and evenly matched first 20 mins they did go ahead with a great shot from the edge of the box to beat Carterton keeper Reece Hayes. Carterton continued to press shifting formation to 4-4 -2 and Joe Langdon ran through onto goal and produced a quality finish with a gently placed lob over the St Edmunds keeper to equalise. Carterton Injuries in the second half saw a change of personal in defence. St Edmunds pushed forward with five in attack only to be denied by Jacob Godfreys desperate last gasp tackle on the edge of the box. At the other end gaps were appearing in the St Edmunds defence with Dylan Butler shooting wide. Carterton started to dominate but against the run of play St Edmunds scored form a corner to put them in front. Carterton still pressed forward and Dylan Butler was brought down outside the box. A free kick from 40 yards out was awarded to Carterton only for Byron Townsend to step up and blast the ball into the net to equalise leaving the keeper stranded. St Edmunds looked rattled and to the frustration of the fans and players George Wright was put through on goal and was looking to score when the referee controversially blew for full time. Another great result against a very good team who play in the higher A league . Carterton 17's continue to improve with every game.
