Chadlington Reserves went top of Division Four on Saturday as they demolished FC Ascott at home.
Following successive draws in the league in the last two weeks Chad knew that they must get back to winning ways in order to keep up the promotion chase.
With no First Team game they were able to boost the squad with Matt Chadwick replacing Josh Betts in goal and Alfie Peachey slotting in up front. Kevin Muhearn and Adam Tinkham also returned. Taylor, Watson, Legg and Hannington were all rested.
It took just 10 minutes for Chad to take the lead with Kevin Mulhearn heading home from an Ellis Godin corner. Peachey doubled the lead as they went 2-0 up into the half time break.
In the second half Chad upped a gear to counter any resistance from Ascott. Soon the goals were flying in from all angles in front of a buoyant home crowd in front of the pavilion. Peachey scored twice more to complete a hat-trick. Ollie Jordan popped up with a goal and could have had several more. Ellis Godin also got on the score sheet, rewarding his best display of the season as he tore apart the Ascott back four.
At the other end the defence was resolute and with Chadwick in goal not having a save to make the clean sheet was secured again. The Reserves now have the second best record in the entire Witney & District.
At the final whistle the score was 7-0 and it could’ve been more. With Milton Reserves losing away to Wootton Reserves 4-0, Chad leapfrogged them into first place and closed the goal difference by 11. Kingham Reserves and Stonesfield Reserves both won and they now are the closest rivals in the promotion chase.
There are still 4 tough games to go in the league (Eynsham SSC Res, Stonesfield Res, Bampton Res, and Wootton Res) and there are sure to be more twists and turns to come!
