Defender becomes fifth signing of the summer

Chasetown are today delighted to confirm the signing of Leon Ashman from Newcastle Town.

The centre-back who can also operate as a striker arrives after successfully scooping three Player of the Year awards for last season's performances.

In August 2008, he signed for Leek Town following a previous spell with Burton Albion.

It was at the Blues where he made over 100 appearances managing a strike rate of one goal in every four matches.

After first-team opportunities became limited during the 2010/ 2011 season, Ashman joined Stone Dominoes before returning to Newcastle Town for a second spell.

He became a popular figure amongst Castle supporters proving his versatility as a central defender as well as a striker.

And he ended last season by captaining his former club in the final couple of games.

The 27-year-old pictured heading home for Newcastle Town in a 4-0 win over the Scholars back in December 2012 - is known to be good in the air with an excellent eye for goal.
