Welcome to the Chelmsford CC Girls' Section.
Our aim is to provide a safe, fun environment where women and girls, of all ages and abilities, can learn to play cricket, whilst having fun, making friends and keeping fit!

History
In 2014 Chelmsford CC established a girls’ section, affectionately known as the “Willows”, which has grown significantly over the past few years. Starting off with one Under 11 team who were entered into the Lady Taverners soft-ball competition, a competition in which they finished runners-up in Essex, the club can now boast almost 70 girls training and playing, ranging from reception to year 9 (ages 5-14).

Over the next few years increasing success on the pitch; word-of-mouth; advertising and through excellent links with Essex CCC’s Women and Girls team, the girls section has grown significantly, resulting in 5 teams: Under 9’s, 10’s, 11’s, 13’s and 15’s. And in 2016 the first tentative steps were made to reinstate the Chelmsford CC Women’s team.

The cricket on offer
We have a wide range of girls aged from reception (age 5) through to year 9 (age 14), who play a mixture of soft-ball and hard-ball matches and tournaments, whatever they are comfortable with.

The girls can play for multiple teams in a number of competitions, including: CEDCB Under 9 league and CEDCB Under 11 league, where our Under 10 and Under 12 girls (respectively) are pitched against local, predominantly male, teams; girls only Lady Taverners soft-ball competitions at Under 11 and Under 13, and the Under 13 hard-ball T20 Cup; and the local Girls Friendly League set up by a few local clubs for Under 15’s; as well as a number of local soft-ball and hard-ball friendlies against boys and girls. Additionally, a number of the girls have also played in the boys league and cup matches.

There’s as much or as little cricket as your daughter would like, plus there’s colts training with the boys all the way through the summer term and into the summer holidays.

Representative honours
We are extremely fortunate in having had a number of our girls selected to represent Essex Women at various age groups and levels; we currently have around 20 girls (in 2016) spread across the Under 11 Development and Performance teams, and the Under 13 Development and Performance teams. But that also means we have almost 50 other girls who are as keen and able to play but who are not in Essex squads – our training and matches cater for all of our players and their needs/abilities.
