CPCC away team were hosted by Blindely Heath Cricket Club@Lingfield. Our team was first to arrive with all 11 players reaching an hour early to an empty ground and pavilion. For next few minutes we started forming two teams within, for a 6-a-side game should it come to that.
It was one of the hottest day in August with temperatures nearing 34 degrees and scorching heat. Soon the opposition arrived and the captains decided to have a 35 ovrs game at 2PM.
Sadly we lost the toss and had to field in the scorching heat. Our bowlers Vasanth and Bhrama started a bit wobbly with the opposition making full use short leg boundaries to race to 30/0 in first 6 overs. Vasanth immediately sensed a change of pace is needed and instantly rewarded by a wicket in Dinesh's first over. Vineel from the other end kept things extremely tight with match figures of 7-3-7-1. Between Vineel, Dinesh (7-1-28-3) and Puneet (5-0-27-1) the opposition kept losing wickets and momentum. CPCC did amazingly well in the last 11 overs thanks to Vasanth (7-2-26-3) and Bhrama (7-0-29-1) by giving away only 30 runs. From what looked like a possible target of 200 in 35, CPCC were now given a target of 156.
Bala and Krishna opened cautiously for us by punishing the loose balls and defending the one on stumps. Krishna's eyes lit up to see a short one that he almost pulled for a six on deep square leg, but perished for 6. Amit (6) and Mahi (3) both departed to run outs in quick succession leaving CPCC at 51/3 in 14 overs. Bhrama then joined Bala who kept going on one end, now opening up and scoring heavily on loose balls. His back to back boundaries (6 and a 4) to their main off spinner (Zeeshan) made him change to seam up middle of the over.
Bhrama stepped out to a dibbly dobbly bowling aiming for the car park, only to get bowled. He was replaced by Captain Vasanth, who ensured his customary huge six on the leg side was demonstrated to the opposition TWICE. Bala retired after top scoring at 71 and being in scorching heat for almost 5 hours. Vineel and Vasanth and brought us closer to the target when Vasanth (18*) decided to give Dinesh some batting practice and retired. This pair then saw us through which was a comfortable win in the end by 5 wickets.
