Park vs HSBC

Nick Stanbridge

Report by Puneet

On 2/8/20, CPCC Sunday team hosted HSBC at their homeground. HSBC chose to bat first after winning the toss. CPCC were down to 10 as Bhrama was stuck at work. Fielding first with 10 players could have been tricky, however HSBC were in for a big surprise with the two paced wicket. There were snorters and ankle length balls in the same over. There were many instances of balls hitting batsman's gloves or upper body and going to third man/gully area. HSBC opening pair somehow braved their way through and reached 29 in 10 overs. Once again our Mr. Dependable Dinesh got us the first breakthrough and subsequently another one to jolt the opposition and slow down the run rate. From 29/0 after 10 overs, they were 32/2 after 13. Lenin (5-0-23-1), Sreejith (3-0-16-0) and Puneet (4-1-13-0) did the containing job during middle overs pretty well before Vasanth(8-0-37-0) and Bhrama (8-1-31-2) finished the tail. Special mention to Vineel (8-2-23-0) who bowled beautifully but unlucky not to have a wicket. HSBC were 167/6 after full quota of 40 overs.

CPCC started the chase well with Puneet and Bala going at 6 an over. Having hit 3 boundaries in match's second over, Puneet (13) was a tad ambitious trying to loft their quickie above mid off and paid the price. CPCC were 17/1 in 3rd over and Sreeram (left handed) walked in. Him and Bala played sensible shots and rotated the strike nicely before Bala (8) departed followed quickly by Mahi (3) leaving CPCC at 32/3 after 7. Vasanth promoted himself to number 4 and immediately balls started to disappear. 5 towering sixes and 2 ball changes later he unfortunately was caught going for the 6th one for 49, but not before he's played the captain's knock and bailed out the team. Good support from Sriram (22) and Dinesh (29) meant CPCC was on course for another win. Two quick wickets Lenin (0) and Bhrama (1) caused a small hiccup but Vineel (12*) and Mani (1*) saw us home.

Well done boys!
