The Sunday XL were ready and rearing to go after successfully chasing 196 the previous week.
We were hosted by Leigh CC which had one of the most picturesque grounds that we played in so far. Leigh's captain wanted to play a 36 over game instead of the usual 40 and Sri ended up winning the toss and decided to chase again. Abdullah and Sri started the opening spell but were unable to take any wickets and the scorecard was 27-0 after 8 overs . Sudipto and Rajesh replaced the opening bowlers and quickly picked a wicket each in the 11th and the 14th over . The run rate was also in check as the opposition were 51-2. We had a few brilliant stops by Kev and Mark (Kudos to him as he was injured at this point) in the field as the overs progressed on. Bibhuthi, Pulkit chipped in a couple of overs each and bowled well for their first games of the season. Abdullah the clever fox set up the settled in batsman beautifully by bowling a slower one and had Sudipto stand at short mid wicket for a catch and it worked. Highlight of the bowling innings was when there was a left hand batsman who could understand Hindi which was the language Sudipto and Abdullah were conversing in. Abdullah knowing that the batsman would understand asked Sudipto to bowl one right on the stumps , the batsman thought it was a ploy and that the ball was going to move away which it didn't and his stumps went flying in the air. But runs kept flowing from one batsman who I think had one too many energy drinks and Leigh ended up with 206 -5 . ABD ( sounds perfect for Abdullah) 8-0-1-36 , Sri 6-1-0-25 , Sudipto 8-1-2-32 , Rajesh 8-0-1-48 , Bibhuti 4-0-0-28 , Pulkit 3-0-0-29 . Pulkit and Peter started off the innnings for CPCC . Peter was unlucky with a quicker one coming in and also kept fairly low . Pulkit is in a wonderful form just coming off a half century in the previous match and kept the scoreboard ticking along with Kev . They stabilised the early loss and Pulkit ended up making an another brilliant half century in consecutive games but the scoreboard pressure got the best of him and ended up with 57 . Kev got out soon trying for quick runs . It was time for the strong middle order in Johan , Mark and Sudipto to chase down more than 100 runs in 10 overs and they played amazing to bring the team so close . Johan and Mark kept ticking the scoreboard and eventually had to go for the big ones. Ended up with 35 and 20 respectively . Sudipto again proved to be the BOOM BOOM of this team scoring a quick fire 40 and special mention to Anil who sacrificed his wicket so that Sudipto can continue punishing the bowlers . After a couple of silly run outs it was up to yours truly to get 4 runs off the last 2 balls. Missed the 5th ball off the over trying to go for a boundary (HOW STUPID of ME!!!), ended up getting 2 off the last one and lost by 1 run. It really felt like a proper international 20-20 match in the last 10 overs and would probably be the most exciting match of the season .
