CoS 1sts 7 v Burpham 1sts 4

An 11 goal thriller at Victory Park this week. Burpham raced into a two goal lead with a little over 5 minutes on the clock. Jaffa halved the deficit from the scuffed penalty spot when Matt was fouled in the box. Jack Ogle then levelled on 20 minutes when his deflected strike found the bottom corner. Moments later though Burpham re-took the lead, only for us to again level minutes later when Gary rounded off a great team passing goal. 3-3 after 30 minutes ! Burpham had the last laugh of the half though, when they scored a great passing goal themselves to go in at the break 4-3 up. By this point it was end to end and could have been 9 - 9!!

We flew out of the blocks second half, by 50 minutes we had turned 3-4 into 5-4 when Jake Taylor scored 2 quick goals, both following great work by Jack Ogle - one via a big deflection and the other a cheeky lob over the goalkeeper. We had a hell of a lot of chances second half, but so did they, and both 'keepers pulled off some good saves, and it wasn't until 80 minutes that the points were secured when Snakey got his hat trick goal. In the dying seconds CoS got another penalty for an obvious hand ball from their skipper. Up stepped 42 season veteran Mick Quinlan who gave the keeper the eyes and sent him the wrong way, to finish the scoring just before the final whistle.
A terrific second half performance.

Next week at home again this time in the County Cup (winners 2019), against a side in Div 4 South of the Amateur Football Combination, or as we knew it back in the day when we were playing in it, The Old Boys League. Div 4 south would have been CoS 4ths back then, so we'd better show that the current 1st (and only) team is a bit better than that!
