Video time again plus ‘Opening Up’ on mental health and S&C

Hello again Mums and Dads.

A busy week here at CBH Junior HQ as we welcome Opening Up Cricket for a mental health and fitness session for our junior players on Wednesday night. We also have Jamie's skills challenge and the last of our scheduled S&C sessions with Greg King on Wednesday.

Lockdown Skills Challenge
This week, we're focussing on the pull shot. Jamie's video shows how to set up and play the pull off a spinner both in front of and behind square leg. As usual, you'll need a bat, some cones or targets and a willing volunteer to feed you.

Keep practicing and focus on repetition, so when you get back to training your muscles will remember what to do. The more you repeat the shot in practice, the better and more instinctively you'll play the same shot to a live bowler out in the middle.

Opening Up Cricket - Mental Health & Fitness Session for Chester BH Juniors

Opening Up is a charity formed to promote mental wellbeing and positive mental health in cricket, in the memory of Sefton Park player Alex Miller. They are running a series of sessions during lockdown and have already delivered a talk to CBH Ladies section, which was very well received.

There are two sessions for our juniors - Tuesday 23rd February - at 6pm for U11s and U13s and at 6.30pm for U15s-U18s and we invite all junior players, coaches and parents to attend. There is no charge but we do ask you to book through Eventbrite please, where a link to the Zoom session will be provided.

Topics in the 30-minute session will include:

Mental skills for cricket
Dealing with pressure and disappointment
Looking out for teammates

We appreciate that most players and parents will be on Zoom a lot at the moment, however there are some really important messages in the session so we do encourage you to sign up and log in.

Lockdown Strength & Conditioning Session

This Wednesday 24th at 5.15pm is our last scheduled cricket S&C session with Greg King. It's just £3 per household and a really good 45-minute cardio and strength exercise workout for players and coaches alike! Siblings and parents are welcome to join in.
