Ladies 2nd X1 into the next round of KO Cup

The season got off to a winning start as Chester beat Lymm Oughtrington Park in the first round of the Development KO Cup.

On a cold and gloomy night at Lymm, having lost the toss, captain Mandy Humphreys opened the batting with Ffion Jones. The pair put on 30 before Ffion was clean bowled in the 8th over by Buckley for 10.

Ava Rogers joined Mandy at the crease and quickly got into her stride, hitting two fours, and with the score on 66, Ava was bowled by Evans having scored 16. Sara Williams (3) came in and as Mandy reached the retirement score of 25, it was left to Sara and Jenny Marvel (7) to see off the last few overs to finish on 92 for 2, aided by 32 extras from the Lymm bowlers.

The Lymm openers attacked the bowling of Ffion and Holly Cooke (4-0-0-16), scoring 18 off the first 4 overs. First change brought on Lucy McCarten (3-0-0-16) and Ava, who claimed the wicket of Evans (7), with the score on 29.

Buckley joined Lowan who was batting well, and she reached her retirement score of 27 in the 10th over. The incoming batters were not as aggressive and with the score on 52 Buckley (9) was dismissed by Ava (4-1-7-2.) As the light faded, some tight bowling from Gemma Black (3-0-0-6), Jenny Marvel (3-0-0-10) pegged back the Lymm score, backed up by some top fielding by Jan Oates and Debra Black. O'Brien (2) was the last wicket to fall caught and bowled by Ffion (3-1-1-6). Khwaja (5) and Davies (2), saw the Lymm innings close on 61 for 3.

A good all round team display, winning by 31 runs sees Chester through to the next round.
