Time at last to get back to what we're best at, playing cricket.
And we did, albeit for just half a game as the Chester weather put paid to half of the friendly with Wallasey.
New skipper Harry Killoran involved 13 players as his side put together 256-8 from 50 overs in Baltic conditions. There were debuts for Luke Young who joined in the winter from Hyde and Atif Qureshi from Llanrwst.
Rick Moore showed his class with a fine 60 and the skipper stepped up to the mark with 50. Lee Dixon made 33 and the two newbies enjoyed themselves, Young retiring on 24 and Qureshi with an eye catching, unbeaten 26. Andy Metcalf also retired after a quick-fire 28.
Sanitisation breaks continue of course (every six overs) but in truth, soup breaks would have been preferred. And although the sun shone early on, the elements were keen to display their talents at the turn-round which included rain, sleet and snow. Naturally of course, once the game had been abandoned, it was a pleasant, if chilly evening.
Still, good to be up and running and Killoran will have been pleased with a batting performance that clearly showed the strength in depth available to him.
