Red hot day at Filkins Lane with some good performances on show.

Hyde at home on an a day that was even hotter than the scorcher we’d had the previous day. Sensibly the captains agreed 40 overs a side and Chester batted with a very different side. Archie Riley and Marius coming in for debuts along with Will Fisher replacing his Dad. Wiggy amd Jack McGovern back too and Joey K behind the timbers.
Griff decided to have a bat and he and Joe got on with things until their super partnership was ended on 55 as Griff was run out in the most bizarre circumstances: Griff played a drive, it clipped the bowlers fingers and rolled agonizingly slowly on to the stumps. Clearly out but who? It had rolled in such a way that it wasn’t clear. Griff trudged off with Joey looking the other way, whistling with his hands behind his back.
Again there was a stutter and stagger until Moss and Jack added impetus. Some terrific shots (apart from the 6 that Jack bounced off the balcony window!). They both perished having played well for their 20s and Dan and Brayno carried on. They ran well and found the fence – Brayno even smacked a huge 6 – as the score rattled up towards 200. 50 run partnership with 30 runs apiece. Archie even managed 1 not out from his one ball at the end. 192 the final total. Good at the top and tail of the innings.
Bowling was hard on such a day. The heat blasted down and Hyde started steadily. A catch down off Brayno was tough as he bowled really well at the top. Griff again rotated and again it worked as Dan and Reg both struck immediately. Both openers gone and the game began to meander until Nath came in and decided to aim every shot to Christleton. He cleared the rope a few times but nearly fell a few others. Wiggy dealt with him.
Young Shiv joined Jahangir to see things to an end 4 down. Another draw. Will Fisher bowled well as did Brayno but both were wicketless. Reg’s two the stand out as he added an extra layer of gilt edging to his golden arm.
A draw 12 – 9 and fair. Mid table currently but with a back end of the season rally and some wins,, things could look up although Didsbury look to be uncatchable this year.

MotM - Matty Brayne as he bowled and batted well.
DotD - Tommy probably!
