A solid effort form the bowlers on a flat one then the batters saw things through.

Having won all 5 games in June, the 2s were keen to keep the ball rolling in pursuit of Didsbury who remain 3 points better off. It's been a while since Oxton 2s have been the visitors but their promotion last season makes for another local encounter; closer than Macclesfield and Marple anyway. Another changed team with availability above having an effect as well as Fishy's sabbatical in Cornwall added to Spavo's 5th Wedding of the summer and Archie on D of E. Luke and Kam up to the 1s and Charlie Fleet, Tommy, Jack, Sahil and Karl all in the side.
No secret about the game plan at home: we'll score one more than you do. Won toss and bowling. A hot afternoon ahead so when Wiggy took two early ones and the score was 4 for 2, things looked good. Credit Clayton who played aggressively and struck boundaries all round the ground. An in/out field and on the defensive to limit the runs. Wiggy struck again with another one bowled which was fine reward for what's becoming an excellent season despite a fallow June. Fishy away meant overs to find and Sahil was the man to replace Brayno who hadn't bowled at all badly despite conceding 55 form his 9 overs.
When Clayton smacked two boundaries square, a plan was hatched, nothing complex, and a couple of catchers were posted. Next over, straight to Wiggy who happily accepted the chance to get Sahil on the board. Another 'bounced out' by Sahil and then Karl decided to replicate Billings' knee catch to give Sahil a third. Top work. Dan on at the other end and a wicket early, LBW not playing a shot. More importantly, the run rate was steeling down. Dan brought back Wiggy to blast out the tail. It didn't quite work but with runs just creeping along, no alarms. Brayno took the last wicket from the last ball caught by Griff at long-on. An excellent effort in the heat and with a flat pitch, especially with bowling resources limited. Dan and Wiggy both bowled 15 overs with run rates of 2 and 3 respectively so 75 runs from 30 overs; the excellent addition of 5 wickets between them. Brayno 2 for and Sahil's PB for the 2s of 3 for 32. Great effort in the field too.
In to bat and Rich Fennah to face, the leading wicket taker in the league. Griff and Modge made steady work of ticking off the runs with no chances given. But the run rate was creeping up. Griff hit lots of singles in his 47 taking him beyond 400 runs for the season (1000 is still on!). When he was out just after drinks, there was a strange period where the scoring seemed to dry up. Another plan and a drink for Modge with a message to crack on. He duly went form 45 to 95 at a strike rate of 200. Superb acceleration. He eventually succumbed trying to hit a 6 to go to 100. A fine stroke makeer but not the most powerful! A match winning innings nonetheless and well played.
Jack Yates smacked his first ball over cover for 4, probably the shot of the day, and the game was done. Another 25 points. 253 is the second most points in the 8 divisions of the County League but it's still 3 behind Didsbury who dispatched Toft. July 23rd looms large.
Players back next week so the club will be stronger.

MotM - Modge for his fine innings.
DotD -Charlie Fleet for the size of his portion pasta and suggesting to the skipper that we bowl them out quick so we can have a beer before was 1:30.
