8 from 8

This week the 3s travelled to groves in search of their 8th win of the season. After winning the toss, Dave fisher decided to bowl first on what seemed to be a tricky wicket.

The usual pairing would open the bowling of Dave fisher and Ben Harvey. Both players in the running for top wicket taker this season, however no such luck would come as both first spells came and went without claiming a wicket. Joe maddocks was brought on for Ben Harvey and Ben Spaven came on for Dave fisher. Both bowlers also suffered the same fate as those who had come before them and were unable to break the deadlock.

Groves weren’t scoring at a great rate but the opening partnership was beginning to build momentum. This was the case until skipper Dave fisher decided to chance his arm at off spin.
Fishy provided the breakthrough not long after coming on, as the opener sliced a full toss to Reg at cover. Groves number 3 came in and was caught in the deep first ball by Matt Hodge off the bowling of Dave Fisher.

Waz was also providing quality overs at the other end, eventually tempting their other opener into getting caught, leaving groves on the ropes. Fishy went onto claim another 2 wickets, finishing his spell with 4 wickets.
Groves ended on 181-7 off 45 overs.

MODGE and Ben Spaven were to open the batting for the 3s, although this did not last long as MODGE was caught out second ball for none. Reg Wyatt was next man in and joined Ben Spaven at the crease who was taking on all bowlers. While Reg nudged and nurdled at one end, Ben was going nuclear bombs at the other finding the boundary all over the park. After a quick flurry of 4s and 6s, Spavo was eventually dismissed on 46. In came George Metcalf to join Reg, who was continuing to score runs. G-unit was unfortunately bowled on 16 and Ian Metcalf was sent in to finish the job. Ian provided ample runs, while Reg was getting close to his 50, unfortunately he was dismissed on 49 getting caught at slip. Batted Reg.
Dan Pond replaced Reg and didn’t hang about scoring a quick fire 21 including a bomb of his own, unfortunately Pond was out caught soon after.
Tommy Evans, who was 6 pints deep, was sent in to get CBH over the line. In the next over, Boughton Hall knocked off the 181, with their bowler bowling a wide.

Another good win for the 3s, 8 from 8 now and onto the next at home to Timperely.
