The Blazers headed up to Caldy on a dry, muggy evening. Somewhat surprised having won the toss, skipper Atko decided to have a bowl. As the team approached the wicket, we thought it might have been the right call (again, somewhat surprising). Some variable bounce made life tricky for the openers on occasion, but Alan Mellor was punishing anything short and with some very good running between the wickets, Caldy got off to a brisk start. Ian Martin ended that wth Chappers taking a smart catch at mid on and then having an LBW in the same over. Fishy finished wicketless but only went for 15 and then Brayno came on and hit those awkward lengths once he found his rhythm. He bowled Mellor for 29 as he looked to go big off his final blow, and claimed 2 other victims in his 3-13. Well bowled sir. Ian finished at the other end brought Boothy on to snaffle a wicket (1-19) and Atko bowl a few twirlers to keep Karl amused behind the stumps. Caldy finished on 95, which given the nature of track, could have been tricky.
Raj and Karl to open, the latter punishing anything loose but then missing a straight one for 15. In went Dil who immediately sorted things out, rotating the strike (slowly) and smashing boundaries. Raj perished trying to scythe one over cover and when Scotty and MIlky were both adjudged lbw, there was a bit of repair work to do. Dil retired on 33 which helped and after brief flurry from Boothy, it was left to Ian and Atko (can't bat remember) to bring things home. A comfortable chase in the end.
Afterwards we had a hearty pie, chips and mushy peas and cake to finish. And a slurp of amber nectar courtesy of Caldy - cheers lads.
No fines book this week (fine) so Fishy made do with the back of a fag packet... always entertaining. Oxton at home next week
MOTM - Brayno
DOTD - Ian (inexplicably hitting an iron bar whilst throwing the ball back)
