The 2nd X1's season started with a tough home game against Appleton 2s and as both sides had struggled for players, an 8 a side match was agreed.
Playing at Dodleston CC on a glorious Thursday evening CBH faced a very strong Appleton side, which included junior county players and regular first team cricketers. Putting Appleton into bat, the visitors were soon rattling up their score, opening up with Abbey Gore and Sylvia Christelow, who both went on to retire at 25 not out. Chris Mclean then retired on 26, and with Rhona Logie 13 not out and A Roberts 6 not out, the innings closed on 121 without loss. Captain Jo Herberton used 6 bowlers to get a breakthrough but the Appleton batters were just too good at finding the leg side boundary on a regular basis.
CBH opened the batting with Emma Inchley and Charlie Waring, and with the score on 12 Emma was clean bowled for 1 by county junior Charlotte Cross.
Hannah Thorley went in and unfortunately was Cross's second victim playing across the line without scoring a run. Di Totty scored a quick 7 runs before giving Georgia Heath a simple catch at mid on off the bowling of Logie.
With the score on 28 for 3, Grace Stark joined Charlie at the crease and steadied the ship, with a partnership of 17 before Grace fell to Christelow for 4. Janine Stark (Grace's mum!) was then caught by Gore off Christelow without scoring.
Gemma Roberts was the last player to join Charlie, finishing on 2 not out. Charlie Waring was the star batter, playing some aggessive drives to reach 37 not out. Our innings closed well short on 57 for 5. Many thanks to Janine and Gemma for stepping in to play at short notice, and to Mark Inchley for umpiring and Sarah Thorley for scoring.
The next 2nd's game is away to Nantwich on Sunday 10 June.
