Looking for revenge following their defeat in the Knockout Cup, the Women’s 2nd XI faced Nantwich 2s once again. Nantwich won the toss and elected to bat first. Our bowlers started strongly, taking three wickets for 8 runs with a catch by Hannah Thorley off the bowling of Eliza Harris (2/13), and one bowled each by Netty Axon (1/14) and Nandu Valliyil (3/3). Nantwich’s Seymour and Addiss (23) began to find some rhythm until Nandu broke their 50-partnership sending Addiss’ stumps flying with their score now 58 for 4. The remaining batters struggled to score thanks to some tight bowling from Beth Morris, Eliza, Ffion Jones, and Gloves (Sarah Friend). Seymour eventually fell on 51 bowled by Eliza with Nantwich finishing all out for 98 in the final over.
Our openers Mandy Humphreys (captain) and Juliet Wiles took to the crease, confident we could reach the target of 99 off 30 overs. They made an excellent start with three 4s between them, and with the score on 31, Jules was bowled by Hudson for 13. Eliza joined Mandy at the crease and having moved the score to 46 Mandy was bowled by Addiss for 10. A stand-out performance from Eliza (33* off 35 balls), supported by Nandu (13 off 15) and Hannah (11* off 20) took us to 99 for 3 and brought us the win by 7 wickets. This was a great all round team performance which rightly puts us into second place in Division
