U15s are through to regional quarter finals in Vitality National Cup.
After awarding Josh Hollinshead, his CBH cap, the skipper won the toss and chose to bowl on an uncovered wicket. The pitch still played well to HQ standards, although a little 'tacky'.
Nav and Sam opened the bowling, with Nav taking the first wicket. Harry Wilkes batted well and retired at 50, not out.
Maaz got the Irby number 3 for a duck, and the skipper rotated the bowling frequently, not allowing the Irby batters to settle; Ben Pold was the highlight with an excellent spell for little reward; love cricket!
Despite some good running by the Irby batters, our focus on fielding and placing constant pressure paid off, restricting the score to 102. Highlights a great catch at point and a 'single stump' direct hit run out by Ram.
CBH set to the task of chasing 103, and to everyone's surprise, Josh H went for one run; ah, well, average now only 68 for the season!
Cayo (c) managed the innings sensibly whilst punishing anything overpitched. Archie played his customary assertive innings, scoring at 152.00; despite a few over-ambitious swipes, the rest of his six fours and one six were impressive, out for 38. Coach talked about not having to hit every ball for four but was very positive about this season's contribution. This year, Archie is developing very quickly and is a crucial player flourishing in the senior cricket environment.
The captain was out to an awe-inspiring catch at deep mid-on with five needed, and Nav and Maaz saw the innings off; more pad rash for James!
It was a delightful game to watch against the best side we have played this season; Irby has some natural talent, and we always enjoy our games together; thank you, Steve.
It is a real privilege to coach a great squad of players who take on feedback and push themselves to improve. Thank you to Rhys for support and feedback for the boys.
Onward to the quarter-finals.
MoM - Cayo Jones (c) for managing run chase with composed innings.
DoD - Josh Leach for consorting with the Shrimpers on the front pitch during the game!
