Chester Gladiators ran in eight tries as they produced a clinical display to beat Bolton Mets 46-16 on Saturday.

Hooker Dan Rowett bagged a hat-trick with prop Andy Hill adding a brace of tries. Dave Beddows, Mike Walker and Paul Foster also scored as the Gladiators bounced back to winning ways.

Chester opened the scoring on 10 minutes when young winger Mike Walker outpaced the Bolton defence to score his first try for the club with Chris Pape landing the conversion from the sideline.

Pape then crafted the second try for Hill with a deft inside pass before a handling error deep in Gladiators territory gifted Bolton their first try.

Rowett skipped past two defenders to score his first of the afternoon on 27 minutes to extend Chester's lead before forcing his way over the line for his second try just before the interval as the Gladiators took a 22-4 lead into the break.

Bolton started the second half strongly but Chester's defence stood strong and it was the Gladiators who drew first blood in the second period.

Fullback Beddows, whose elusive running caused the visitors problems throughout, weaved his way through the defence before racing 60 metres for an excellent solo try.

Some slack tackling allowed Bolton to reduce the deficit with a converted try but Hill powered his way over the line to restore the Gladiators lead on 62 minutes.

With props Chris Young and Michael Durham making good metres, Rowett began to control the game from dummy half along with halfback Pape. Some neat footwork from Rowett opened up the visitors defence and he raced home from 65 metres to all but secure the win for Chester.

Bolton grabbed a consolation try following a strong run close to the line but the Gladiators had the final word when veteran Foster stepped beyond some tired defenders to score next to the posts and wrap up the victory.

Gladiators chairman Jim Green was delighted with his side's performance.

"We went into the match with only two fit substitutes and we had a 16-year-old on one wing with a 17-year-old on the other so we're really pleased," he said.

"Our forwards were excellent and really laid the platform for us. It was good to get a win after a run of tough fixtures.

"We've got a couple of weeks off now before finishing of the interim season with three games against decent sides. We're aiming to finish on a high before turning our attention to the 2012 season."

Gladiators fullback Beddows was named as the Bartletts Solicitors man of the match, ahead of Rowett and Young.

Chester are without a game for the next two weeks and return to action on November 12 when they travel to Little Hulton Reds.
