Late withdrawals due to injuries and work commitments saw Chester travel with only 13 players and they were unable to cope with the Bears.
Chester started well enough but Ashton enjoyed the majority of possession and the Gladiators defence soon began to tire.
The Bears took advantage by keeping the ball alive whenever possible and the numerical deficit proved crucial.
Chester refused to give up and an offload by Jim Green was collected by Dan Rowett and he raced away for a deserved consolation try.
Half back Chris Pape was sent off with just over 15 minutes remaining following an ugly scrap and Chester's exhausted 12 men conceded four late tries to make the final score 54-6 in Ashton's favour.
