Chew Valley 45 Barton Hill 14
With Midsomer Norton losing away at Matson a bonus point win at home for Chew Valley took them to the top of the league for the first time this season.
A try straight from the kick off receipt for winger Harry Stride and a Tom Bryan try on 12 set the tone for the day where the hosts looked sharper throughout.
Losing skipper Alex Cox with 15 minutes gone meant a backrow reorganisation and for a while Chew Valley were guilty of playing to Barton Hill strengths taking the ball into contact too close to the breakdown.
Bryan made a try saving tackle on outside centre John Armstrong who was a threat all day but it was Chew Valley who would score next on the half hour when a Dan Gatton punt upfield was caught on the full by winger Joe Webb for a try under the posts.
Just before the break Armstrong did all the work for a try following his midfield break converted by Mike Kearney.
The bonus point try came on 44 minutes as second row Richard Light made a break off a ruck 20 metres out and although he was held tight head Johnny Eves was on hand to take an inside.offload for a popular but rare try.
Webb and Stride each added a second to go with one from centre Joe Cowell and with Bryan converting 3 and prop Reg Parfitt 2 in his absence all Barton Hill had to show for their second half endeavours was a try from Roland Gabriel on the flank on 75 minutes converted by Kearney .
