Injury ravaged Newent came away with a try bonus point thanks to the generosity of a number of errors from the hosts. Tries in the first five minutes from flankers Luke Sparkes Brown and debutant Matt Wright both converted and with Chew Valley looking to run riot it looked like a long day for the Severnsiders. Interception tries from scrum half Sam Piper and centre Jamie Hall, one converted by Tom Webb at 10 and a try from winger Zac Kananagh meant it was 19.12 before the first scrum on 16 minutes.
At scrum time and in the lineout Chew Valley had the edge and a yellow card for No8 Dan Fletcher did not help the visitors cause. Grady Wright at 8 scored off the scrum 5 driven over. Skipper Alex Cox operating in tbe second row scored off a driven lineout from a penalty to the corner for Tom Bryan to convert all 5 and a half time lead 35.12
Kavanagh grabbed his second on 45 minutes followed by centre Harry Stride on 48.
With nothing to lose Newent grabbed a try as the home defence dozed Hooker Sam Withers crossed converted by Webb. Grady Wright added s second on 56 minutes and centre Chsrles Shallcross a try shortly afterwards. yellow cards for the Wright boys meant that Chew Valley played most of the last 10 minutes with 13 men and Newent took advantage when prop Lee Barnes Warren powered over from 30 metres out to grab an unlikely try bonus point. Tom Bryan at fullback scored the tenth try and converted all but two of the second half scores and the ton was up when Webb danced through the defence from a quick tap at the death. He converted his own try.
