Match report
South West 1 West
Chew Valley 50 Wellington 26
Unbeaten Wellington came to Lobbingtons to play, they mixed their game using effective pick and go from which they scored twice. Their backs although running good lines had very little change from the home defence with centre Charles Shallcross and flanker Matt Wright doing the hard graft. Chew Valley winger Harry Stride collected Tom Bryans kick off and four minutes continuous play after scored in the corner. On 14 minutes home scrum half Ben Mead appeared to fumble what would have been a ball to the wide outside only to pop it inside to No 8 Alex Cox who strolled in unopposed. Bryan converted both.
Welington recovered from their slow start with a try from prop Jack Richards who broke from a maul close in. Fullback Alex Davey converted as referee Ciaran Elster repeatedly penalised the hosts in the middle third to gift Welington territory and posession.
Tom Bryan with a try , conversion and a penalty put the hosts clear but another penalty took Wellington to the corner and after their pack battered the line the ball went wide to winger Ben Price for a try on 36 minutes .
Stride was tackled high by his opposite number Finn Pocock just before the break so with Brysn adding the penalty it was 27.14 at the break..Flanker Will Hodgson scored as the maul was used to good effect by the visitors on 56 minutes and Richards added a second in the same manner on the hour either side of a Bryan penalty, with Bryan converting it was 4 point game with Wellington in the ascendancy.
Superior fitness and the impact of the bench with the introduction of Luke Sparkes Brown and Matthew Blacker in the pack together with cutting out errors gave centre Joe Cowell ball and space to run in two late tries on72 and 75 minutes . Bryan converted both and two penalties for a perfect day off the tee to put a gloss on the result.
