The U12's to end their time in the Mini's as Somerset Champions (just).

The weather, pitches and organisation were all perfect for a great days rugby at Wells RFC.
With 9 clubs competing in 3 groups the Chew Valley U12s squad sponsored by Kingswood School and local business Metro Rod, were placed in a pool with some very tough opponents in Taunton and Wells RFC.

First up were a very good Taunton team, but some ferocious Chew defence saw off early pressure and allowed us to counter attack. Our speed, handling and support were too much for Taunton with Chew winning 3-0.
Wells were next in the group and these are always close games against our Mendip neighbours, but Chew were playing well and dominated to win 5-0.

Chew through to the next stage as group winners to compete for the title against the other group winners, Keynsham and Nailsea & Backwell. Tough!
Keynsham were our next opponents in this final stage and having had the better of them a few weeks ago we were confident, however Keynsham, being the class act that they are, had done their homework and beat us at our own fast rucking game to win 3-0. A massive disappointment for Chew.
Keynsham played Nailsea & Backwell next in a very tight and competitive game. N&B, perhaps surprisingly, coming out as winners by a single try 1-0.
Title hopes were still alive for Chew apart from being some way off in having to beat N&B by an unlikely 6 tries. What happened next was pure magic from Chew. Every pass was to hand, every move precise, every running line through the gap and every tackle effective. Complete rugby by Chew and an incredible 6-0 at half time. Chew had to score one more try for the game to be stopped (RFU 7 try difference rule) and straight from the kick off, going uphill, a thunderous run sealed the try, the game and amazingly the Somerset Cup!

CHEW THE CHAMPIONS

Although only 15 players were allowed to play in the tournament, this win for Chew Valley is much more than the players present on the day. This was most definitely a squad win. There is no way Chew would have won this tournament without the others. There is real strength, commitment, camaraderie and a pure team spirit that runs through the whole squad.

Well done Chew Valley U12s.
