A trip up the M5 to the Worcester Landrover Cup proved to be a very enjoyable day out for the U12's.
In a very tough group containing clubs we had never played before, there was a clear focus on our rucking and defence which the boys fully embraced. A solid 3-0 win against Whitchurch (Shropshire), was followed by two bruising victories over Luctonians (1-0) and Bourneville (2-0) before another strong performance against Dudley Kingswinford (5-0). The energy and commitment across the defensive line from the whole squad was a huge improvement from the week before and to not concede a try in the group matches was very satisfying.
The semi-final saw Chew drawn against a large and very well drilled Stourbridge outfit. Chew had the early territory but were unable to convert it into points, and once Stourbridge had possession, it proved very difficult to stem the flow of pressure. Despite some heroic last-ditch tackling, eventually the Chew defences broke, conceding two late tries.
Stourbridge won the final relatively easily, so to come so close in such a high profile tournament is a very positive sign for the season ahead.
