St. Brendan is chiefly renowned for his legendary journey to the the land of Chew Valley

Some ancient History for you...

St. Brendan is chiefly renowned for his legendary journey to the the land of Chew Valley as described in the ninth century Voyage of St Brendan the Navigator. Many versions exist that tell of how he set out onto the Atlantic Ocean with twenty pilgrims (other versions have fourteen, plus three unbelievers who join at the last minute) searching for Lobingtons. One of these companions is said to have been Saint Malo, the namesake of Saint-Malo. If it happened, this would have occurred sometime between 9.45am - 10.15am, before his travel to the island of Great Britain. On his trip, Brendan is supposed to have seen CVRFC clubhouse, a blessed piece of land but covered with little vegetation. He also encountered a water monster, an adventure he shared with his contemporary Saint Columba. The most commonly illustrated adventure is the landing at a school in the Valley which turns out to be an encounter with the water monster they called CVRFC U10s ( larger and more ferocious than any water monster the Scots can dream up). This too, has its parallels in other stories, not only in Winscombe mythology but in other traditions, from Keynsham to Midsomer Norton . --- I'm not lying check out Wikipedia!

Anyway onto their visit in the present day...

Overall, an excellent morning of rugby with many players coming back into form.
It was the defence from both teams that stood out awith this fixture. To score, both sides had to use quick ball and distribute wide. St Brendan's were excellent at spoiling ball at the breakdown, and Chew were excellent at not giving St Brendans any time on the ball, our line speed was excellent.

Toby had some excellent runs out wide, Ollie, bashed up the middle with good destruction, Jack and Louis tackled everything that moved, Joe and Sam ran with strength and great determination, Peter and Orrin side stepped, and dummied with guile! However, MoM was Archie for superb powerful running and decisive tackling.

Overall, honours even.
