Somerset Cup/National League double header

Chew Colts visited Yatton to play both a National League fixture and Somerset Cup semi final. Going into the fixture Chew were top of the League and Yatton mid table. Chew had the bigger pack, but scrums were uncontested.

Yatton Colts opened with the benefit of the brisk breeze at their back and during the first 20 minutes enjoyed much the better territorial advantage albeit the game was very scrappy. Chew's incursions into Yatton's half were generally through strong runs by Mal Thompson, however, beyond that Chew were unable to find any fluency and were penalised on a number of occasions for not releasing under Yatton pressure at the breakdown.

In the 23rd minute, Chew found their stride with a move initiated by Max Dorrington who ran through a number of tackles and the ball was then moved through hands from the left wing to the right, eventually reaching Pat Farrar who fed Ewen Tarrant who, in turn, beat two Yatton players to score in the corner. Chris Martin, who had a good day with the boot in difficult kicking conditions added the extras.

Chew didn't look back and in the 27th minute Max Dorrington was again the initiator with Connor McNama the scorer. In the 37th minute Chew again moved the ball well with Pat Farrar crossing the whitewash to bring the half time score to 19 v 0. Chew's dominance grew in the second half running in six tries scorers being Chris Martin, Max Culverhouse, Max Drew (2), Mal Thompson and Oscar Anderton.

Yatton fought hard throughout and were rewarded with the last score of the match just before the final whistle to make the eventual score a 55 v 7 win for Chew. Our thanks to Yatton RFC for a well contested match.
