With ex Bristolians players in the Cats squad this fixture had more than edge than normal and was hard fought throughout.

Chew Valley Cats 25 Old Bristolians Ladies 7
A good crowd in autumn sunshine were treated to a highly competitive encounter at Lobbingtons.
The Cats game on game improvement was reflected in the way that they limited the scoring opportunities of Old B's.
With scrums uncontested the visitors had early success with their No8 breaking from the base and then putting width on the ball and this led to their try after 9 minutes when the fastest player on the field, left winger Natalie Kwatia scored and the try was converted.
The midfield defence, marshalled by Georgina Bessell with a point to prove against one of her former sides, snuffed out further opportunities for the speedster and as the Cats pack warmed to their task driven on by Scrum Half Rhianna Williams most of the play was conducted in opposition half. Nancy Portsmouth on the wing crossed for a try after 20 minutes following a scrum 5 and former Chew Valley Junior Alex Harrison-Wolff made a welcome return to the club with an all action performance as replacement flanker and her tries either side of halftime effectively settled the game.
With more than their fair share of possession the Cats were able to put the ball through a number of phases and learn how important it is to be patient and look after the ball. The hard yards made by the forwards close to the breakdown and pressure from the backs in defence forced the error that led to a try for Skipper Hannah Pearce. Operating at No 8 Pearce capped her best performance for the Cats with a pick up from the base of a 5 metre scrum and she was not going to be stopped on her way to the line..
Fiona Penfold operating at outside half although she seemed to be everywhere on the park, capped a good days work for the Cats with a try. Running a tap penalty on the 22, the last play of the match saw Penfold dance through the visitors disorganised defence for the score. This result leaves The Cats third in their league with the return against Westbury eagerly anticipated.
