From a casual chat over a few drinks back in April 2021, Dave McRitchie, Pat Cotter, and Mark “Bomber” Harris turned a dream into reality—and the Cobras were born.
Since then, we've grown into a club where everyone belongs,regardless of background, and we strive to make rugby a home for all—where respect, discipline, and teamwork create stronger individuals and a stronger community.

Dave, Pat, and Mark established our guiding principles:

• Inclusivity: We open our doors to everyone, especially those who may not have had the chance to play.
• Respect: For teammates, opponents, coaches, referees, supporters, and the game itself.
• Community: Rugby is more than a sport—it’s a family that supports, mentors, and grows together.
• Development: We teach skills for the field and lessons for life—resilience, integrity, and humility.
• Passion: Every pass, every tackle, every cheer is shared in the spirit of love for the game.

Thanks to the ethos and principles of the club, and the guidance and efforts of so many people (too many to name, but you know who you are), the Cobras have achieved some truly remarkable feats.

International Pathways and Tours

The Cobras have established player exchange programs with Australia, England, Hong Kong and New Zealand, sending local talent abroad and welcoming international players to join our ranks.

• Phuket 11s
• Multiple other events throughout Thailand

Commitment to Rugby Development

We have hosted World Rugby First Aid and World Rugby Level 1 & 2 (15s) coaching courses, supporting the growth of rugby skills and safety.

The Cobras have played a pivotal role in establishing a rugby league in Chiang Mai, with special thanks to Lanna Rugby Club, All Stars, and CMU Rugby – rugby in Northern Thailand wouldn't be the same without you.

Honouring Key Contributors

We celebrate the individuals who have shaped our club:

• Dave McRitchie: Co-founder since 2021, Dave is the backbone of the Cobras. His leadership and dedication have made us an international touring club. Dave’s commitment on and off the field is unmatched.
• Pat Cotter: Another co-founder, Pat’s passion and energy have united clubs across Asia. He has organized the Phuket 11s and CNX 11s tournaments and helped establish the Chiang Mai league.
• Mark “Bomber” Harris: Mark embodies the Cobras spirit—his unwavering support and guidance have inspired the team, even after retiring from play.
• Matthew Nunn: Our coach, whose leadership has transformed the Cobras into a formidable force.
• John “JB” Brown: A newer member whose rapid rise and impact have been felt both on and off the field.
• Karen: A long-standing supporter, always present at games, engaging with fans and players, and offering help to all.

A New Chapter Begins

The founding committee—Dave, Pat, and Mark—will be stepping aside to allow younger members to take on leadership roles. An interim committee will oversee our final commitments at RBSC 10s and CNX 11s. Stay tuned for a formal announcement of the new leadership team!

This transition fulfills the vision set around the founding table years ago. Here’s to many more hard-fought battles on the field and lifelong friendships off it.
