2 teams enjoyed superb rugby at Crawley, with the 'Hurricanes' coming 3rd in their group and the 'Spitfires' storming all the way to overall victory!

A good day - wet underfoot, but sunny. Hurricanes were in a group with Eastbourne A, Reigate and Hove, drawing 4-4 with Hove, losing 3-5 to Eastbourne and 4-1 to Reigate. They qualified in the Bronze Group, losing 4-1 to Crowborough in the semis but winning the play-off against Horsham 5-3 for 3rd place. Game time was equally spread amongst the players and every player took a showed great improvement in tackling and/or running. Toby was always difficult to bring down, great tackling performances by Joseph (technically excellent) and Zak (brave last man “bundle” tackles), and strong running from Sean and Hugo.

Spitfires started really well, beating one of the Crowborough teams 8-2. Next match against Uckfield was incredibly tight - we led 1-0 for much of the match and the tackling was seriously hard. Jakey Wood pulled off a flying last ditch tackle, and then scored at the other end for a 2-0 win, but the rugby was superb. We finished with a comfortable 6-0 over Crawley, winning our pool.

Semis for the Spitfires were against a misnamed Haywards Heath B - main team at Brighton, and this was an amalgam of rest. 5-1 winners meant that we were in a final against Reigate. Again, a heroic set of tackling against a good side and we never got clear in terms of scores. They had some dangerous runners, and were through twice but last chance tackles from Jakey, who ran them down saved us. He was superb in attack and defence and deservedly man of the day. Without him they would have been comfortable winners. 3-3 at final whistle, but Reigate's 5-4 win at semis versus our 5-1 meant that we won! Tough, tough day and they all played really well.
