Wow what a finish

The Blues set forth for the long journey to Dover knowing they would need to draw on their good form of recent weeks if they were to return from the Kent coast with any league points.Dover have proved over the years to be very tough to beat particularly on their own patch. The coaching staff also had some tricky selection decisions to make with no fewer than six players from the previous week unavailible and ongoing injuries to half backs Billy Toone / Richard Adams and prop Ash Wheeler. The return of Jack Walker from long term injury in recent weeks gave him the opportunity to start at 12 to replace Jack Bentall and big Nick Blount came onto the bench having missed the previous five weeks with injury.

The pitch although obviously wet was not in bad condition and Chi chose to play up the significant slope in the first half. The red shirted Dover tore into the away side seemingly able to turnover blue ball at will ; there definitely looked a case for the tackler not rolling away on several occasions but the reds were not going to wait for decisions and they looked to capitalise. The Dover 12 certainly let Jack Walker know he was there with a massive early tackle although unfortunately the Dover player had to leave the field. With only five mins gone and the under pressure blue defence was breached by hard straight running creating space out wide and a well timed kick put the winger away ; a good offload gave the home side their first score 5-0. The pattern of play continued with the more streetwise home side winning the break down area and the blues struggling against the elements. Dovers big backs carried hard and quick ball worked an overlap wide right for another score - the Dover fly half who had an excellent game throughout slotted the extras. 12-0. Dickin as always caught excellently in both open play and line out and Moses Kasujja put his body on the line time again to try and rally the blues. Leon Driscoll standing in at 10 tried his best with scrappy ball and on occasion threatened but the momentum was definitely in the home sides favour. Another try gave a 17-0 lead followed by a regulation penalty and a very tough half came to a 20-0 close.

Some very harsh words from DoR Colley stated in no uncertain terms that the game could be retrieved with the hill and slope now in their favour but that the whole side would need to start playing with some pride. Kasujja powered forward with O'Callaghan adding excellent break down support; quick ball and suddenly it was a different game Durkin zipped he ball away quick hands through the centre and young Nat Jackson was one on one with his opposite number with a superb change of directon the debutant dashed past to score. With only minutes of the second half gone the unlikely comeback had started. More pressure with a couple of decent kicks and the line-out catch from Blount put Chi in an excellent driving position close to the home line.Collins always playing on the edge transgressed once to often killing the ball off his feet and left the field with a yellow.Another strong blue carry and Blowers left the field again going off his feet and in at the side in the kill zone. Down to thirteen and Chi knew they had to capitalise. Kasujja powered of the back of a strong scrummage platform and smashed over-Driscoll slotted the extras 20-8. The home side dug in and an enthralling battle ensued but some wrong options and one or two poor kicks from Chi allowed the reds to halt any further scores and with the return to 15 men Dover started to apply some pressure of their own. The blues were rock solid at scrum time with young Joe Woods having another excellent game but time was running out and Dover were sensing a famous victory ; indeed with probably only 10 to go the home side broke strongly up the right hand side good interplay and the winger was in for what looked like a certain try and game over ; but Durkin produced a stunning tackle with such force the ball was dislodged over the line and no score. Head coach Rob Lawrence now on put in a thumping tackle as the blues fought to the end. Back in the red half and with only 3 minutes to go and the coach was involved again with a deft pass putting the flying Driscoll away the Barbadian International showed all his pace and power to shrug off the tackle and score out wide, with only seconds left he smashed the ball through the middle to gain the extras 20-19. Last play shouted the ref as the blues received the KO big Lee Latu juggled but held on ,Walker now at nine moved it away huge pressure from the Dover backs but Dickin hit a good line timing his pass to Renwick one mistake and game over ; Renwick drew and gave just out side the Chi 22 to Rory Tanner a swerve took him past the first defender then a jink inside two changes in pace and the young wing had made the half way line with more defenders pouring across ; an inside arch took him away from the next tackler and then with 30 metres to go Tanner tore down the touch line to outpace the cover to score an unbelievable try conversion missed. Ref blew for no time 20-24

Rob Lawrence 'An unbelievable win but we are under no illusions our first half was simply not good enough'.

Paul Colley 'at half time we were playing only for pride after such a poor start ; technically we weren't great today but the belief and the heart was incredible ; with the amount of changes we had to make this was a big week - really pleased to see Nat have such a Memorably debute and wow what a try by Rory'.

Next week the season rolls on with the very attacking Cobham coming to Oaklands park. All support welcome.

Team: Turner Belcher Woods Lindsay-capt Dickin Latu Goldie Kasujja Durkin Driscoll Jackson Walker Renwick Tanner Jackson : Lawrence O'Callaghan Blount.
