Training Session - Week 3

Great morning of training today with x International Jenny Lyne. The focus today extended the theme of communication from the session she ran last season. Jenny ran the warm up session in a small grid with boys responding to four simple number calls:

1. Put the ball on the ground with another boy pick up
2. Throw the ball in the air and someone else claims and takes
3. Run into the nearest player who rips the ball
4. Put the ball down, everyone runs our of the grid then back in with different players picking the balls up

We then moved onto to ball handling and passing with in a wide channel where the boys were calling switches and miss moves of each other. In addition the boys were required to look at what was in front of them, react to it and communicate to their team mates. In some cases this included Jenny wearing a variety of hats and sunglasses !!

Following this we moved to an larger grid area with multiple entry points where three attackers played against two defenders. The different entry points forced both attackers and defenders to react and adapt tactics. Obviously communication was key to this exercise. The boys showed some excellent attacking skills getting past the tackler and offloading to support players running from depth. In addition I was really pleased with the strength of the teams tackling after a long summer off.

We split forward and back up with Jenny and Tommo spending time working on scrummaging technique and body position. We still have a lot left to learn in this area of the game. The backed with with our new coach Sam and myself running through our strike moves.

Lastly we finished with a short 15 minute game.

All boys trained extremely well today and I am very pleased with the progress after only 3 session. Thanks to Jenny and all the coaches. We look forward to Jenny running another session after our first league match.
