Chichester put on one of the best displays of rugby seen for many seasons yesterday at the University pitch in Chichester.
With the team oozing confidence they ran out 75 - 10 winners against a full strength Horsham side.
Choosing to play with the wind behind them in the first half Chichester kicked off and immediately put pressure on to Horsham, well worked drills would be evident throughout the match, starting with a "Red Ball " drill allowing Lewis with his shear size and strength to force his way over the line after 5.00 minutes. TRY.
Chichester maintained the pressure and used the wind to their advantage, pinning Horsham back onto their 22. Chichester being awarded a penalty, with Jackson running onto a tap penalty and smashing up the forwards on his way to put the ball over . TRY. Simon converting to make the score 12-0
Horsham's heads didn't go down and they were rewarded with a try after some good pressure on the Chichester line.
The pace of the game started to intensify after the shock score from Horsham and soon after from a turnover scrum the ball was worked out to the wing and the impressive Joe Knight showed his pace and strength to put the ball over. Simon converting to make the scores 19-5.
At this stage Horsham started to wobble and under great pressure Chichesters team effort clicked up another notch, with a great team effort the final drive allowing Ollie P to go over 24-5.
Chichester would save the best of the first half till last, with the ball being worked out to the inside center Joe Knight who chipped the ball over the on coming Horsham team, following up with a superb sprint to the ball which he duly scooped up one handed at full pace, completely out smarting the opposition, the final tackle being made not before a smooth pass onto Ollie P who did the easiest run between the posts to place the ball down, Horsham well and truly deflated Half time score 31-5.
Half time, and changes to be made , with Ben Boswijk , Arif, Ollie Johnson, Elliott, Charlie McGregor, and Harry Knott all coming on, George Hales having replaced Jackson earlier on in the first half through a minor injury. Second half to start with Chichester now facing the bitter wind.
With Ollie P being rested Luke Potter moved over to the outside centre position, and it didn't take long for him to establish himself with a powerful run down the wing showing a great turn of pace brushing challenges off as he went, placing the ball down...36-5
Chichester were starting to dominate the play now, and the strength of the pack was evident, so much so that Jamie Holmes who had a fantastic game burst through the forward line of Horsham to place the ball down to make the scores 43-5 with the conversion from Simon.
In fairness to Horsham their heads didn't go down and they did get, much to the disgust of the forwards, another try.
Shortly afterwards, and almost in defiance of what had just happened Jamie got his second of the match between the posts with Simon converting 50-10
Chichester hadn't finished yet ! With Simon picking up the next try between the posts after great work from Elliot Haydon and Joe Knight, converting to make it 57-10.
Further tries from Lewis, Cameron, and Ollie P who had all worked tirelessly throughout the game made the final score 75-10.
Described by the coaches as a superb team effort from the boys , the parents who had witnessed something special made a tunnel for the boys as they came off after the game and gave a huge round of applause for a job well done.
