Great start to the season

Chichester City opened their league campaign in the South East Combination League against Brentwood Town on Sunday. This is the first time Chi Ladies have played at this level so all were keen to see if they were ready for the step up. Both teams started well moving the ball around the park and maintaining possession, it was clear they were closely matched up. Chichester looked the stronger side and stamped their authority after 9 minutes with Lucie Challen finishing calmly in front of the Brentwood goal from a quickly taken corner. Brentwood reacted well and pushed high up the park, Hannah McNamara made an outstanding save to keep Chichester in front. With both sides playing well Danielle Paul pinged an outstanding set piece onto Jade Widdowson's head and Challen reacted fastest again to lob the keeper from close range. The heat took its toll on both sides in the second half. Chichester started brightly holding possession and denying opportunities through fantastic organisation throughout the back line. Brentwood's fitness looked stronger as they pressed the Chichester goal hard. The home side got one back from a superb set piece but Chichester held out to take the victory. Next match is against Norwich on Sunday at Oaklands Park 1400hrs kick, £2 entry.
